Searching for Steely Dan is the story of Eddie Zittner, a 29-year-old New Yorker who is obsessed with Steely Dan. And his life is going nowhere. He's an aspiring writer who has stopped writing. He's bouncing from one dead-end job to another. His parents are constantly on his case. And his marriage is a mess. 
         February 29, 2000 is a special day for Steely Dan fans. "The Dan" is releasing Two Against Nature, their first new music in 20 years. When Eddie goes to purchase the CD (he'd reserved one weeks ago) he finds that the clerk in the music store has failed to hold a copy for him. He goes home and vents a little frustration at his wife. His wife, fed up with his obsession and lack of ambition, vents right back at him, and throws him out.
         Looking for inspiration, Eddie begins a noble quest to find The Dan. His story plays out on the sidewalks of Manhattan. Eddie juggles relationships with his wife, girlfriends, father, brother, and a mother who specializes in Jewish guilt trips. Eventually he must confront his problems, and face his uncertain future.
